Altered Beast for Sega Genesis (Last Updated 3/24/21)

In case you don’t know altered beast is a side-scrolling beat ‘em up probably set in the mythological world of ancient Greece, although it might be the mythological world of ancient Rome. It can be played 1 player or 2 players, and when playing 2 players the 2 players don’t alternate, they play simultaneously and there is no way to accidentally or on purpose hurt each other and you can’t get in each other’s way.

The different ways you can play this game are: buy the Sega Genesis cartridge and it should work in any system that plays Sega Genesis games and it’s one of the 80 built in games in our AtGames Sega Genesis and we’re sure it would also work in its port to play Sega Genesis cartridges if someone wanted to use a Game Genie. We’re sure it will also work with a Retron 3 and Retron 5 since those also have a port for Sega Genesis cartridges as well. It’s also on a compilation disc for PS3 called “Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection” but the codes for it might be different than the ones for the same game for Sega Genesis and for the PS3 disc there’s no way to use a Game Genie.

The easiest way to beat the game is access the options menu and set the round to 5, leave the difficulty setting at normal, set the power level to 5, and set the player level to 5. Then fight your way through level 5 (it’s the last level) making sure to get power ups and then you fight the boss of the whole game: A giant rhinoceros-man. After you beat him the credits roll and they’re interactive credits, you can punch or kick them to force them to scroll downward, then after the credits are over you can press any key to start over on the first level with the lives and energy level you had from before.

Options Menu:
Hold B then press Start at the title screen. You can now select from these options:
Round 1-5 (1 is the default and the round is the level.)
Normal, hard, hardest (normal is the default and this is the difficulty setting.)
Power 1-5 (3 is the default and this is how big your energy level is when you spawn.)
Player 1-5 (3 is the default and this is how many lives you have.)
All of these settings will now work for when you start your game except the round setting if you selected any round except one. To get any round setting other than round one to work you then need to:
Hold A then press Start at the title screen.

Continue Game Play:
Hold A and tap Start when losing your last life until you start at the beginning of the last level played. Note: it makes no sense to use this game code on level 1 as you will start there anyway.

Beast Select:
A+B+C+Down+Left then press Start at the title screen.
You can select from a wolf, tiger, bear, and dragon for each of the 5 rounds and then you press start to exit, the defaults are:
Round 1 Wolf
Round 2 Dragon
Round 3 Bear
Round 4 Tiger
Round 5 Wolf

To Start 2 Player Mode:
Press Start on controller 2 at the title screen.
Pressing Start on controller 2 during game play does nothing, and there’s no option to “Select Start” for 2 players at the title screen. A hint that 2 player mode must be possible is it’s shown during the demonstration.

Sound Test:
A+C+Up+Right then press Start at the title screen.
Then select the name of the sound you want and press C.
