Sky Shark for NES (Last Updated 3/24/21)

In case you don’t know Sky Shark is a vertical scrolling shooter where you pilot a World War II fighter bomber against enemy ships, tanks, gun emplacements, trains, and planes, and “NES” stands for “Nintendo Entertainment System.” It can be played 1 player or 2 players, but when playing 2 players the 2 players alternate, they don’t play simultaneously.

The only way you can play this game is: buy the standalone NES cartridge and it should work in any system that plays NES games. It’s not on the Super Game 500 in 1 Multicart for NES, the Super Game 400 in 1 Multicart for NES, the Ultimate NES Remix 154 in 1 Multicart for NES, the Super Games 150 in 1 Multicart for NES, The 100 Best Videogames 143 in 1 Multicart for NES, the Unlicensed Collection 142 in 1 Multicart for NES, or the Pocket Games 30 in 1 Multicart for NES. There’s also an arcade machine game version of this game with the same title but the game itself is significantly different than the NES version.

This is one of those games that is pretty much impossible to beat without any game codes, even for experienced players. Luckily the game designers weren’t so cold and heartless as to not include a really good built-in game code. The game has five stages and then it loops from stage two indefinitely. We guess the game designers figured the game is so difficult most people wouldn’t be able to get past the fifth stage. By not having an ending with credits it robs you of the feeling of accomplishment you get of beating a game and also makes it hard to tell when you have beaten the game for players that don’t know the game that well so we disagree with the way that they structured that.

Regardless of how many bombs you have after you beat a stage when you start again you will have 3 bombs even if you had more than 3 bombs or less than 3 bombs so might as well use bombs freely towards the end of a stage. Bombs are useful not just because they do a lot of damage to enemies, they also make incoming shots disappear.

Eight Lives and Eight Bombs:
Press Start, A, B, A(3), B(2), A(2), B, A, B, A(2), B(2), Start during game play on the controller that currently has a plane flying in the game. Unlike some other game codes it can be used an unlimited amount of times, even while still on the same life, and also unlike some other game codes it can be entered slowly and it will still work.

To Start 2 Player Mode:
Press Select then Start on controller 1 or controller 2 while at the title screen at any time. Unlike most 2 player games it doesn’t say that there’s a 2 player option on the title screen, but it does go from 1 plane icon to 2 when pressing Select.
