Super Contra 6 for NES (Last Updated 3/24/21)

In case you don’t know Super Contra 6 is a side-scrolling run ‘n gun with the exception of levels 2 (the ships level) and 4 (the planes level) where you have an top-down view and “NES” stands for “Nintendo Entertainment System.” It can be played 1 player or 2 players, and when playing 2 players the 2 players don’t alternate, they play simultaneously, and there’s no way to accidentally or on purpose hurt each other or get in each other’s way.

The different ways you can play this game are: buy the Super Game 500 in 1 Multicart for NES (where it’s titled “Contra 6”) and it works in original NES systems and all Retron systems except the Retron 5 and this is what we have and it works great in our Retron 2. It’s also on the Super Game 400 in 1 Multicart for NES but not on the Ultimate NES Remix 154 in 1 Multicart for NES, the Super Games 150 in 1 Multicart for NES, The 100 Best Videogames 143 in 1 Multicart for NES, the Unlicensed Collection 142 in 1 Multicart for NES, or the Pocket Games 30 in 1 Multicart for NES. This is not an official Contra game so there is no standalone cartridge for it for any system.

As far as we can tell Super Contra 6 is the same game as Contra Force, the only differences being they don’t use the same game codes, each playable character starts with 8 lives instead of 3, the title screen is different, the story imagery is not as good (it shows a story where a demonstration usually is when you don’t press anything on the title screen), the appearance of the 4 playable characters is different, and the names of the 4 playable characters is also different.

Whenever you are on a higher level and want to drop down you can’t do so by crouching and pressing “A” like you can in Contra 1 and Super Contra, if you try it you will just jump. Also, unlike some other Contras there are no levels where players can accidentally or on purpose kill each other by going up higher than the other player.

The game is pretty straight forward except for on the third level there’s a teeter-totter and you have to shoot something above to get a box to fall on it while standing on the other side of it and without destroying the box. Also the fourth level you don’t have to go around exploring the planes or destroying their engines, etc, you fight your way through wingtip to wingtip and then wait on the wingtip for the next plane except for the last plane where there’s a boss in the back middle of the plane. The fifth level is the last level and after you defeat the boss of the whole game it shows the end screen and if you wait long enough the title screen reloads. Unlike other Contras the lives you have left don’t carry on after you beat the game.

For Super Contra 6 when a player has zero lives left press Start then select a different character and keep repeating this tactic and if you keep doing this you will have more “lives” without having to start at the beginning of the level. This trick is more useful if you are not playing with the extra lives code. You have unlimited continues but each time you continue you must start at the beginning of the level. The 2nd player can come in and leave any time and you can even select different computer run 2nd players.

There is a “super jump” which sometimes works and sometimes helps you to use, to try it: jump, then pause the game, then unpause the game, then jump again and if it works you jump a 2nd time from where you were in the game when you paused the game.

17 Lives For Each of the 4 Playable Characters:
Press Up+Start during game play (The easiest way to get it to work is hold Up then press Start. This code will also work during the playable character selection screen that comes up after pressing Start. This code also will work an unlimited amount of times.)
