Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Manhattan Project for NES (Last Updated 4/8/21)

In case you don’t know Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Manhattan Project is a side-scrolling beat ‘em up, and “NES” stands for “Nintendo Entertainment System.” It can be played 1 player or 2 players, and when playing 2 players the 2 players don’t alternate, they play simultaneously and there’s no way to accidentally or on purpose hurt each other.

The different ways you can play this game are: buy the standalone NES cartridge and it should work in any system that plays NES games. Buy the Super Game 500 in 1 Multicart for NES (where it’s titled simply “Ninja Turtles 3”) and it works in original NES systems and all Retron systems except the Retron 5 and this is what we have and it works great in our Retron 2. It’s also on the Ultimate NES Remix 154 in 1 Multicart for NES, the Super Games 150 in 1 Multicart for NES, and The 100 Best Videogames 143 in 1 Multicart for NES, but not the Super Game 400 in 1 Multicart for NES, the Unlicensed Collection 142 in 1 Multicart for NES, or the Pocket Games 30 in 1 Multicart for NES.

Like with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game a slice of pizza gives you full health so the lower you are in health the more useful it is to get one so a good strategy if your health is full or nearly full and you see a slice of pizza then wait until you have battled all the enemies on that screen to get it, since unlike power-ups in some other games it will never disappear on its own, and this is the only power-up in the game. Like with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game after beating each level you are topped off on health for that life but do not get an extra life (unless the points you got defeating the boss put you over the 50,000 mark). Unlike with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game you are given a bunch of points when killing something (which is the way Nintendo games usually work) and you get an extra life per 50,000 points. Also unlike with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game the points don’t carry over when you use a continue. Also unlike Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game and most games, when you lose a life you don’t automatically come back in the game and so you must press the “B” or “A” buttons if you want to continue playing as the same turtle, if you want to switch turtles press “Select” to select which one then press “B” or “A” and pressing “Start” just pauses the game like usual, and regardless of if you switch turtles or not your number of lives will stay the same.

The easiest way to beat the game is use one of the first three codes below to jump to the last level (It’s called “spaceship 3”) and also select difficulty level easy and 7 lives then you fight “Super” Shredder and you start right at him. To avoid being zapped jumping won’t help, hold Up or Down instead and you will walk out of the way.
And a strategy if you are trying to “see everything that can be seen” in the game and so are playing it all the way through is if you arrive at a level with too few lives that you think you can beat that level but have one or more continues left is to just set your controller down and let enemies kill you so then you run out of lives at the beginning of the level and then use a continue and now have a full amount of lives.

The codes below need to be entered at the title screen unless stated otherwise. The “title screen” is the screen right after the black and white screen and the turtle video, if you start the code during the black and white screen or turtle video the code will not work, and you have to enter the code fast because it’s not long before the demonstration begins. These codes are modified versions of the code known as the “Konami Code” because it works for a bunch of Konami games (Konami is a company that makes games), and how it is modified is “A” and “B” are switched around.)

Cheat Mode (You can select if you want scene: beach (default), ocean, battleship, bridge, N.Y., platform, sewer, sewer 2, technod., technod. 2, building, roof, spaceship 1, spaceship 2, and spaceship 3. You can also select if you want the difficulty level to be at normal (default) or easy. You also can select how many lives you want, they call them “players” and the options are 3 (default), 5, and 7. There are also 13 sound options you can select from.):
Up(2), Down(2), Left, Right, Left, Right, A, B, Start for 1 player.
Up(2), Down(2), Left, Right, Left, Right, A, B, Select, Start for 2 player mode A.
Up(2), Down(2), Left, Right, Left, Right, A, B, Select(2), Start for 2 player mode B.

Auto Turtle Selection:
Down(5) at the character selection screen, or Down(10) at the same screen for two player mode. If you enter the code correctly you will hear a chime and it will say “auto mode.” After a turtle is defeated, the next turtle will automatically be selected randomly. Alternately, rapidly tap Left, Right repeatedly at the character selection screen.

Save Energy:
During game play repeatedly press A + B when low on energy to keep it from going down faster. (Not sure if this is true.)

Additional Continues (Japanese version):
A, B, Right, Left, Right, Left, Down(2), Up(2), Start. You can increase your continues after selecting a character. (and for 2 players mode A you probably just need to add a “Select” before “Start” and for 2 players mode B add two “Selects” but we don’t have a Japanese version to test these codes.)

Level Select (Japanese version):
Down(2), Up(2), Right, Left, Right, Left, A, B, Start. The level selection screen will appear after selecting a character. (and for 2 players mode A you probably just need to add a “Select” before “Start” and for 2 players mode B add two “Selects” but we don’t have a Japanese version to test these codes.)

Programmer Message (Japanese Version):
Up(2), Down(2), Left, Right, Left, Right, A, B, Start. A brief message in Japanese will appear. (and for 2 players mode A you probably just need to add a “Select” before “Start” and for 2 players mode B add two “Selects” but we don’t have a Japanese version to test these codes.)

Alternately (Japanese Version):
Up(2), Down(2), Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Start. (and for 2 players mode A you probably just need to add a “Select” before “Start” and for 2 players mode B add two “Selects” but we don’t have a Japanese version to test these codes.)
